Un Habitat III Conference

UN-Habitat III Conference

In April CCTF director, Dr. Chris Elisara, and CCTF Global Urbanism Leadership Team member, Dr. Joshua J. Yates, traveled to Nairobi, Kenya to attend the second preparation conference for the forthcoming UN-Habitat III conference planned for October 2016 in Quito Ecuador.

To quote the World Urban Campaign, “Half of the world’s population currently lives in cities, and in a single generation this will grow to 60% by 2030 and 70% by 2050. Today the number of cities with more than 1 million inhabitants has swollen to over 450, more than 20 of which are ‘megacities,’ with a population of more than 10 million.” How the world urbanizes, therefore, is a big social, political, and ecological challenge.

To help the global evangelical community pro-actively respond to this immense human and creation care challenge with Christian wisdom and values, the CCTF is embarking on a process to facilitate a global evangelical discussion on the issue of urbanism. The purpose of this discussion is to develop sound biblical, ethical, and practical resources to equip the global evangelical community; and to contribute to the global thinking, action, and dialogue that will shape the world’s urban future and ecological integrity of creation.
